The Fourth of July is once again right around the corner – parades, cookouts, fireworks and celebrating that American independence baby. I’ll be celebrating another kind of independence around the same time this year. As of July 7, 2019, I’ll be one year THC free.
I started smoking pot when I was 12. My first paper route supported my habit and launched a lifetime of ingesting it. Although I appreciate marijuana for its recreational benefits, I mainly used it for its medicinal ones. Move ahead 30 years – at 42, as an asthma sufferer and with my short term memory on the decline – I decided it was time to quit. I made the decision to walk away from THC for good (although I still believe in its medicinal properties). I’m breathing better now, I’m less anxious and I have laser focus these days.
Let me take a step back. My doctor had been trying to convince me to take a CANNABREAK for years. He said someone with an asthma condition, smoking anything, was beyond ridiculous (of that he was adamant). I couldn’t really argue the point. He suggested that perhaps long term THC consumption was affecting my short term memory as well. He finally convinced me that I could do it. I cannot tell you the panic that ensued. How could I stop smoking pot…and not freak out? Well, he had an answer- CBD. He suggested I try it for 90 days, to wean myself off of THC. I’m almost a year in, and I’ve never looked back. I don’t miss THC. CBD gives me all the same effects without the high. I’m still using CBD. It keeps my anxiety in check, but most amazing of all, it reduces and alleviates my asthma symptoms. Studies have shown CBD to be a bronchodilator an anti-inflammatory and an antispasmodic. It is now a daily part of my regiment and for me is indispensable.
When my journey began I had lots of questions and decisions to make. Should I buy hemp oil that is FULL SPECTRUM oil or an ISOLATE? Making things more confusing, there are oils made from Whole Plant (full spectrum) Hemp, and oils made from Isolated Hemp! Whole plant hemp is associated with high-grade CBD oil and is extracted from the seeds, stem, and stalk of the plant. Not only does hemp oil contain CBD, but it also provides many natural cannabis compounds. The most beneficial results seem to derive from the addition of terpenes, flavonoids and Omega 3 added to your system with CBD. These and most “secondary” cannabinoids like CBG, CBC, and CBG-A cannot be naturally derived through food. Using CBD as a diet supplement offers total bioavailability of these nutrients. Omega 3 (fatty acids) are extremely important because of their power to repair damaged brain cells. This is very important to me (short-term memory).
My goal is to obtain a higher level of health and a stable feeling of well-being through the use of CBD oils and topicals. My decision to use a full spectrum tincture was made based on info gleaned from websites like: CBD Hacker and Harvard Health. They provide insight and do not sell their own CBD products. I likened them to a Consumer Report on CBD and hemp products. I soon decided whole plant supplement was probably more effective than its Isolated Hemp counterpart. Isolated hemp products come from just the stalk of the hemp and have the terpenes, cannabinoids and flavonoids found in the hemp plant removed. CBD hemp wise has everything I need. High-quality inexpensive CBD products from a company I trust. I really enjoy their Bluebird Botanicals – (1500 mg CBD), Full Spectrum. I also like the Endoca – Hemp Oil Drops (1500mg CBD) and their topicals are fantastic. I love this time of year. Summertime is in the air and I feel great. I’ll be out there with America this year, cooking out with my family, going to the fireworks and celebrating America’s independence. Only this year, I’ll also be celebrating my independence from THC…thanks to CBD.
